I was thrilled to find this photo (below), as well as other photos, of Arthur at work in one of my Grandmother Ingrid's Books of Remembrance.

Here are some close-up views from the above photograph.
First up—my grandpa, Arthur Harry Iverson.

I thought it would be interesting to show the calendar from the day the photo was taken. Looks like it was a January day in 1931.

Great photo Jana, and so many details! You can see the front wheels of the car are still there. And isn't the combination of a plumbing and a soda fountain service a bit strange? (Possibly my understanding of what a soda fountain is, is not correct.)
ReplyDeleteHi Peter,
DeleteYep, I thought the same thing about the plumbing and soda fountain service being a rather odd combination.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I love old photos and this one is wonderful. It is fun to see all of the details you can pull out of it - and that calendar to help you date it. Your grandfather was a handsome man.

I love how you showed us the details of the photo. And I think the plumbing and soda fountain service make a perfect combination. They found a niche market! The old soda fountains required pumping soda and water through pipes or whatever. Spigots and knobs. Pipes and pumps. Sounds like plumbing to me.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy! You're right about the niche market thing. And as I think about it more the plumbing and soda fountain combo makes sense. Especially if you picture the old-fashioned soda fountain at the drug store serving up ice cream and soda creations.

Thanks Wendy for the explanation of the soda/plumbing combi. I can see that niche market now.
DeleteThese photos are so cool! I've wondered for years what his work environment looked like. Now I know!
