My Five Generation Birth and Death Place Pedigree Chart

In 2016, I shared my five generation birthplace pedigree chart here on blog. Today I just finished creating a slightly different pedigree chart. This time I included the birth places and death places of my ancestors in a five generation pedigree chart. I think it's an interesting visual chart that shows immigration in my family tree.

I used an Excel spreadsheet to create this chart. I assigned each country a specific solid color. I've included the country/color legend at the bottom of the pedigree chart.

For my immigrant ancestors who were born and died in different countries, I used two colors in their specific cell on the spreadsheet: the color of their birth country and the color of the country where they died.

For instance, I am in the first spot in the pedigree chart. I was born in the USA. My mom was born in Brazil and died in the USA. So her spot in this chart has both yellow (Brazil) and blue (USA) in gradient form with yellow at the top because she was born in Brazil and blue at the bottom because she died in the USA. Her grandfather, however, has blue at the top of his cell and yellow at the bottom of the cell because he was born in the USA and died in Brazil. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, I really like how this chart came out. It's an interesting way to see how many immigrants I have in my five generation pedigree chart.

Five Generation Birthplace Pedigree Chart

Yesterday J Paul Hawthorne, author of the GeneaSpy blog, shared a fun and interesting five generation birthplace pedigree chart on Facebook. He created the chart using Excel and shared the template on Facebook.

Many of my fellow genealogy bloggers created their own chart using the template Paul provided and also shared them on Facebook. My timeline has been filled with these fun and colorful charts. Of course, I had to join in on the fun, so I created my own chart and shared it on Facebook last night. I decided to share my chart here on my blog as well.

Here's a little explanation about my chart:

The chart begins with me. I was born in California. My dad was also born in California and my mom was born in Brazil.

My paternal grandmother, Ingrid Anna Gillberg was born in Utah and my paternal grandfather, Arthur Harry Iverson was born in Minnesota. They both moved to California and met there. My great-grandmother, Hilda Maria Carlsson, and her mother, Karin Johnsson, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden and immigrated to the United States along with my great-grandfather, Carl Albert Gillberg, and their family. My 2nd great-grandfather, Iver Iverson, immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1858 and served in the US Civil War. He and my 2nd great-grandmother, Marit Thorsdatter, who was also born in Norway, both settled in Minnesota.

My maternal great-grandfather, Watson (Frederick) Emory Webster, was born in Ohio. He is known as "The Traveling Dentist" here on my blog. He practiced dentistry in three countries: the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. He met and married my maternal great-grandmother, Esther Matus Villatoro, in Mexico. They immigrated to Brazil sometime between 1910 and 1912. My maternal grandparents, Debs and Willis Webster and their family, including my mom, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1950 and 1951 and immigrated to the United States in July 1952. So, that branch of the Webster family left the USA in the early 1900's and then came back again in 1952.

Death Causes Pedigree Chart

I saw Nathan W. Murphy's post in which he shared his "Death Chart" on the FamilySearch blog earlier this week. What an interesting concept! And it can actually be quite helpful in a medical sense, can’t it?

Other bloggers have beat me to the punch in posting their Death Causes Pedigree Charts on their blogs. I'm finally posting mine today.



It's interesting to note that my maternal grandfather died of a stroke at the age of 80, and his father also died of a stroke, although he was 82 years of age at the time of his death.

My paternal grandfather died of a heart attack at 32 years of age, leaving behind a wife and four young children. At this time I don't know his parents' causes of death. His mom was only 38 years old when she died. She passed away eleven days after giving birth to her 7th child.

Creating this chart has been interesting. Unfortunately, cancer seems to be a prevalent cause of death on my dad's side of the family. Not listed in this chart are two of my dad's sisters who also died of cancer. One died from breast cancer at 58 years of age and one from leukemia at 24 years of age. My paternal grandmother, who ultimately died from gall bladder cancer at 89 years of age, was a colon cancer survivor. My dad was a non-smoker, but died from complications of esophageal cancer at 73 years of age. His esophageal cancer was caused by years of acid reflux problems.

Since writing this post, I ordered the death certificates of my paternal great-grandparents (the three "Unknown" boxes at the top of this chart). They should arrive by the end of the month. Yay! My two great-grandparents (the "Unknown" boxes at the bottom of the chart) died in Brazil. Obtaining their death certificates may be more difficult.
