My Grandpa Debs and his family are heading south. They’ve completed their visit to Idaho, and are now driving to Utah.
The next photographs in Grandpa Debs’ 1952 photo album are from Salt Lake City, specificaly Salt Lake City Temple Square.
Salt Lake City is the headquarters for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a worldwide church consisting of approximately 14,441,346 members. As recent converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this visit to Salt Lake City must have been very special to my Grandpa Debs and his family.
The first photograph is of the Salt Lake Temple. This magnificent temple took 40 years to build. The cornerstone was laid on April 6, 1853 and the dedication was April 6, 1893.

And here we have the Assembly Hall. It is a beautiful Gothic-style building constructed between 1877 and 1882.

If you are ever in the Salt Lake City area, I hope you take the opportunity to visit Salt Lake City Temple Square. It is well worth your time.
I’d also love to share with you the vintage postcards of the Salt Lake City area from my Grandpa Debs’ scrapbook. They are really cool! But, this post is already getting quite lengthy, so I’ll have to wait until next time.

I love the feeling I get when I walk where I know ancestors walked. And while Debs was not that far back in your ancestry, visiting a place he and his family visited had to be very meaningful. Do you know how much time they spent there? Did they attend worship?

Unfortunately, I don't know how long they spent in Salt Lake City. But I do know that this was in fact a very special visit for them. I talked to my mom and she verified that for me.
