Favorite Family Recipes ~ Spritz Cookies

Here's another of our family's favorites ~ Spritz Cookies. I usually make them during the Christmas season.

They really are deliciously sweet, buttery cookies.

Here's the recipe I use. I adapted it from the Wilton Spritz Cookie recipe found on the Wilton Spritz Cookie Press box that I've had for years.

Spritz Cookies

1-1/2 cups butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Preheat oven to 400°. Thoroughly cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk, and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour and baking powder. Gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing to make a smooth dough. Do not chill. Place dough into cookie press and press cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate with decorating sugar crystals as desired. Bake at 400° 6 to 8 minutes. Remove cookies from sheet. Cool on rack. Enjoy!

Makes 6 dozen cookies.

Recipe adapted from Wilton's Spritz Cookie Recipe found on Wilton Spritz Cookie Press box.

If you've never used a cookie press, here's a helpful video about how to use one.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I have my mother in laws older cookie press - you have to turn it by hand to press the dough down through the mold. I"m going to have to dig it out and make a batch since I'm home for awhile.

    2. Jana do you use this cookie press in video? I bought the battery one a year ago but dont have good luck with it. Dragged out my older Manuel one but had trouble with it today. I think my dough was too soft, haven't made them in many years so lost my touch! You'll have to give me some pointers. I'll try your recipe maybe after the holidays if I get another gun.

    3. Hi Jeanne,

I have an older version of the cookie press in the video and last year I bought an Oxo brand Cookie Press. I've never heard of a battery-operated cookie press before. Hmm, I'm not sure what happened with your dough. I'm not sure what pointers I can give you. Hopefully your cookies will turn out great the next go-around. :)

  2. This is our family tradition as well! I've tinkered with the recipe over the years, but keep coming back to this, although you can use 1/2 Can't Believe its not butter. The key is to keep the dough cold before using the press or it smooches too much. Our favorites were the Christmas trees. My mother also made wreaths and candy canes (whenever I make them they break). Now to find the silver bells, sprinkles and cherries! I was planning on baking this weekend!

  4. Spritz are a huge holiday favorite at our house too (we've been known to make them in pastel colors for Easter too).
